Lorenzo de medici in florence literally had a "garden" where he was used to collect ancient stuff like statues. michelangelo asked him to get in there in order to draw them as references for male anatomy.
ie. "apollo del belvedere"; "laocoon", you literally can see them in some of Michelangelo and Raffaello's works. perhaps there weren't many ancient scultures from women.
also michelangelo might've been pretty gay since he liked drawing muscular men and even women, leonardo might've been gay too, but Raffaello was not gay at all. just saying
so i started using ancient statues myself as anatomy reference, hope it might help someone too.
