I had a friend from art college who I had long thought was going to eventually be a truly good artist because he spent so much time talking about and attempting to learn new concepts and anatomy etc. But slowly he became more and more obsessed with finding shortcuts to paint "faster and more efficiently and """""just as good""""" Now he's doing garbage work and his attitude sucks. He takes bad 3d models and mashes them with photomanipulated backgrounds and calls them speed paintings.
Funny thing is though he wound up getting a spectrum nomination in the concept art category a couple years ago for this hunk of garbage (which utterly defies comprehension what they saw in it) That blasted his ego in to the stratosphere and he's all the worse for it.
