I like anime. But i was also always interested in fine art when i was a kid. Some manga is very well drawn and its a specific style. That being said. If you study fine art you begin to realize how incredibly fucking retarded anime is.

No. Anime is a style of commercial art/cartooning. It's just as valid as any other.
I personally have no interest in it, as well as cartooning over all, but I don't shit on it just because I don't like it. But it's not fine art, never pretended to be, why you're trying to make the case that it is, I don't know, but if you don't like it, just don't like it. I don't, so I stay out of anime threads, because I can't speak with any authority on it. And, literally nobody cares if I like it or not.

The method and proportions as taught by loomis are fundamentally retarded in that they’re modeled after some idea of “the ideal American”, and past the skull it can barely be called construction. Compare the eyes “construction” in loomis’ books to Asaro, Bridgman, Huston, even Bargue. It’s uneducated symbol drawing.

Traces can never look good because the additional detail you will add will not be in perspective, and for it to be in perspective you actually need to model yourself. But at the point where you are actually good enough to 3d model with all the necessary details you might just fucking become a 3d artist.

Both are methods of visualizing a form, some people prefer to visualize it like a wireframe, others like masses or volumetric blobs. Dave Rapoza and Riccardo Federici as well as other artists that are good at cross hatching obviously visualize forms as if they are wrapped with lines/mesh.
