it's not worth it at all and you don't even say what you want to do. 2D, 3D, pixel, vector, what? you should probably get a familiarity with whatever engine the games you want to make art for would use

Those aren't game assets, that's concept art. Anyone buying your work like indies don't need that. Look at what's out on asset stores now like itch.io and https://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/DavidYing/20151221/262323/Top_10_Best_2D_Game_Asset_sites.php

Most things are in the realm of pixelshit, tilesets, icons, or things like mobile game graphics. If you're serious you'd embed yourself in gamedev communities but now is not a great time to start. Making vames is bard and visibility of indies gets worse every day.
