>>3687027Self-taught just means you yourself have been always in charge of finding and organizing the knowledge you acquire over something, no one else is directing the path you are following or marking the rhythm.
Learning responsibility always lands on yourself, no matter if you have an instructor or not, but if you are self-taught, you are responsible about the information filtering and best practices with your performance. Basically if you go to a school and they are lazy about their topics or material, and how they evaluate you, you may complain and blame them of the outcome, but being self-taught means you are responsible for all of that, so if you fail, you fail twice.
The bright side and that's why I'm self-taught, is that you can also get a much better understanding about the materials since you have to learn them as a student and as a teacher, you get better at researching material, and being more proactive.
A lot of people once they finish a degree or schooling on something, they realize they have lost that guidance of the figure directing their path, and that's a big crash, if you are self-taught, you become resourceful enough to know that you can do anything by following the previous steps you used to learn some other skill or improve your knowledge about something, so you don't feel that lack of confidence when someone else is relying on you to perform a task you may not have enough expertise at.
Being self-taught is an investment in your future professional self.
