My art school has a partnership with Repin, and I'm very tempted to go there for 3-6 months. Problem is that I don't know Russian, and don't plan on learning it. One of my profs said that Repin has got an international/English program now, but he didn't know about the quality of it. Do you happen to have any info about it?

There isn't one. Gouache is more beneficial as it is opaque and you have to focus more on shapes and values for your image to read properly.
