Each time I hear the podcast Marshall seems so wise and well readed and Proko seems as ignorant as possible, is he just lazy?

He managed to buy and build a studio, he gets freebies from wacom, all that only by selling courses, he is a good bussiness man, a decent teacher, but is still a mediocre artist, his life work would be is teaching bussines. That studio would be a great if picasso was alive and were using it, but still someone like KJG only needs a brush pen to do great things. I kinda feel he spended his money very stupidly like those idiots buying cintiq but can't do shit.

I remember a podcast where Proko said he hated doing art for money and wanted to eventually delegate all proko work to other people so he could just make personal art all day. Maybe he does care about art after all?

Marshall has a playful vibe, he likes to goof around and Proko tries to catch up and it seems he is not that good at banter, maybe that's why it seems awkward, but I think there are no ill intentions behind it.
This only bothers me if Marshall is talking about something interesting and the conversation derails into a pointless argument.

I think proko is quite smart. He definitely makes me cringe but I think he is just doing it to gain subscribers and patrons and to make you remember things and it works. I had teachers back in the day like that in all subjects. You think of them as out of touch boomers but their mnemonic devices do help you remember. And you can't say he's talentless. He drew a fucked up kangaroo once but he obviously has plenty of skill and has made many great drawings.

I'm not Stan. But I recognize that we know his name. Even his crazy last name prokopenko. We know who he is. We've watched and therefore supported his content. People pay him real money. That's passive income. Brainlet don't make passive income. Proko making gay jokes about a skeleton is like Elon smashing the windows on his gay triangle car. No publicity is bad publicity. Not only that, he gets good artists on his podcast. I don't like his podcast but he is a big enough name that he can get those guys to come chat with him. I would love to talk to my favorite artists and be associated with them.

I haven't actually heard much of the podcast but from what I have it seems like Proko just wants to bounce off of Marshal and not just be a repeat of what he's saying which I appreciate. I've never sensed any real hostility between the two. It might be a cultural thing but in the U.S. it's very normal to have a bit of sarcastic back and forth with someone where you voice strong disagreements and maybe throw out some insults. It doesn't mean either person is angry at each other or harboring any real negative emotions underneath. In fact, it can often be a sign that you're comfortable enough around someone to have that kind of banter.

I think this board has just the tiniest bit of an anti-proko circle jerk. I agree that he isn't a well-rounded artist that excels in what most of our goals are (being able to draw from imagination & skilled in appealing more stylized work. That and he sort of presents himself as an expert worth giving money to for lessons sets expectations high (and rightly so when money is involved). I don't think Proko is an artist I find inspiring or see as a master of his craft but I can't see I feel that way about Marshall either. All that said it doesn't mean there can't be worthwhile information to draw from them. I've yet to see a better lesson for studying gesture or the fundamentals of shading than Prokos videos (if anyone has please respond.) They both know enough and are exposed to an artist outside themselves to have valuable things to say. Overall I think Proko is really okay and his roll on the podcast is not without value by a long shot. He just sort of presents himself in a way that sets up bad reactions.

eh I mean, Proko is someone everyone here knows about (at least tangentially) and his podcast with a marshal is probably one of the biggest ongoing ones right now related to drawing. think we just have to all accept that as long as it's going this board is going to keep bringing it up.

Anyone could take a decent piece from one artist and put it next to a bad one from another artist. Yes Proko is bad at drawing from imagination with no reference. That means he hasn't built up a good visual library, not that he's completely devoid of artistic merit.

I can't put a finger on quite why though. Maybe it's something to do with the proportions or thickness of the lines.

His pelvis in a bucket video is my favorite video of him though. Really simple but accurate simplification of the messiness that is the pelvis structure.

Is that the actual artwork displayed on the course with

and most importantly of all

If you are gonna charge me 80$ for your lesson atleast put minimal effort in the lessons thumbnail

I think i could draw a better jack in the box and i consider myself fucking trash in comparison to most artists that i see
