Their figure drawing is almost universally shit (stiff, flat, out of proportion, odd or incorrect musculature, etc), yet they're almost always great at perspective drawings, scenery, drapery, line quality, and stylistic flair. I don't know how japs so good at one aspect of drawing, but so shit at another, especially if they're using the same study sources as western comic book artist whose figure drawing is usually master level.
