>>99717810Actually traveled to Japan with a group of friends in 2017 here, don't listen to people warning you about anti-white racism. If you're polite, don't scream and shout in public (public spaces in Japan are very quiet), and play by the rules you'll get along just fine. Outside of Okinawa no one will make a fuss beyond some staring because foreigners are a novelty. Japan is one of the safest countries in the world. Now on to the actual tourist advice.
Kyoto is a tourist city. Go there if you want to see the sights and experience traditional Japanese culture. There are dozens of shrines, and I particularly enjoyed the Fushimi Inari shrine. It's an ancient shrine built into the side of a mountain. There are plenty of observation decks and at night you get a view of the entirety of Kyoto. It's definitely worth the several mile hike up the mountain through the ten thousand Torii gates, which is the shrine's main gimmick. There's also the ancient capital castle/museum that's good to visit during the day. If your feet get sore from all the walking, there are plenty of local hot springs to relax in. Note that the hot springs are nude baths, and large, visible body tattoos are prohibited. It's an anti-gangster thing.
If you're a filthy weeaboo, go to Tokyo. The group of friends I was with spent 3 days in Akihabara and we'd all go back for more in a heartbeat. My favorite landmarks were the Radio Kikan building, Super Potatoe, and the wide variety of maid cafes. There's less historical stuff there and more modern culture to enjoy. Beyond anime, the Harajuku district is famous for it's fashion, and the Shinjuku district is known for it's nightlife. Tokyo tower also makes for a good view of the entire city.
Japan is a great place to vacation and I'd definitely recommend going there. Osaka even has great beaches if you like a more "island vacation" feel.
