Aquaman is a tenured DC character for some reason, like he was created by a small child with cancer, and the heads of DC promised on his death bed that he'd always appear in comics.
For the goddamn movie, they immediately understood how shit of a character they'd been handed, "Incredibly White Guy in his gated community, defending it from the angry Black Guy who wants to rob it", and they gave up and found a LESS shit character to base him off of.

They made movie Aquaman into Lobo because he's less craptacular a character.
