Why is it that comics and cartoons with LGBT (I.E. Steven Universe, Midnighter & Apollo, etc.) are never considered “gay enough”?

I always see entire essays on how things “could be gayer” or “it’s bad representation”. What is the acceptable amount of gay in media?

As a homo I have a problem with Steven Universe but not Midnighter and Apollo. Steven Universe tries to be inclusive but all they feature are lesbians who aren't real lesbians.

I just want an action cartoon with a cool male MC who happens to be gay. But I wouldn't want a romance subplot to where his gay crush just so happens to be gay too, so I'd prefer the relationship to already be established when the show starts or for the couple to already share a closeness before they take it to the next level.

It means that comic and cartoons don't accurately depict the struggles that LGBT community face in modern society. In Steven Universe, Ruby and Sapphire are in a loving consensual relationship and don't wallow in their self pity like gays in real life. I doubt they even care about gay history. When people don't put gay characters in something, there's going to be folks complaining about poor representation.
