Nefcy describes herself as a feminist and clearly thinks of Star as one as well, but her show (intentionally or not) has taken the piss out socjus/radfem "feminist" types more than once. Janna is a spergy loser who "fights the patriarchy" by refusing to wear her favorite color (pink). Star wants to be a "strong, independent warrior princess" but just about every single time she tries to act like every other female lead who can take on any obstacle on her own and don't need no man to support her, she gets in over her head and fucks something up along the way until she learns better. And she does learn to listen to Marco more, and listen to Glossaryck more, and listen to her parents, because even if none of them are always right they usually have a point and always want what's best for her, even if she doesn't like it.
Star can be her own woman and will make her own decisions, but that also means accepting responsibility for the consequences of those decisions, and growing the fuck up in general. She has to learn that being "independent" doesn't mean you never need help, and that your life will be much easier and more enjoyable with someone at your side to support you.
