They didn't do anything with the Mad Max schtick and the robot subplot (if you want to call it that) had so little time put into it that it felt more like filler for the transitions of the main plot
I can understand if they want to go for a more mature plot and all, but that doesn't equate to having your characters vocally projecting literally everything that's going on with them 24/7. Easily the worst parts of Rick and Morty is when it goes deep because it becomes way too self indulgent of itself
Fuck, even the new opening bits for Season 3 were all nothing but callbacks to previous episodes
