Either way it's not going to change anything. People will see the episode no matter what, especially children who are suprisingly much well versed in internet than their parents. Oskar would've been an objectively bad choice for Star. Her adoration for him was skin deep. And now she's not even crushing on him anymore.
If the show is going to be about Star growing as a person and maturing throughout her adventures.

At first yeah, but the difference lies in how they progressed into season 2. Jackie is now canonically in a relationship with Marco and shows an earnest effort to make him comfortable. Plus, their time together has been fairly linear and uninterrupted. Things never got serious between Star and Oskar, and Star never had the set goal of going after him, thus it's been forever since his appearance in Star on Wheels and when we next see him, he's changed completely and he's looking for someone to validate him.

in the book there is the poster for the love sentence appereance on echo creek, april first.
and marco and jackie started dating from the school dance which i'm guessing is aroung august because prom dances and all of that kind of events are around the end of the year here is where i'm wrong. so it gives us around 7-8 months between the dance and the concert.

I don't think anyone here is actually arguing that best friends can't date or that best friends should never get together. I think they're lamenting the idea that so many shows can't seem to reach an official conclusion without making best friends of the opposite sex an endgame ship or at least having them catch feelings for each other and then leaving those feelings unresolved.

Star gave Marco the Quest Buy car for their 6 months friendship anniversary sometime before the Halloween episode, which would mean she arrived on Earth somewhere in spring or earlier and has been here over a year, and yet in Starcrushed it's her first summer on Earth and they're all still 14.

The person from your friend group that you like spending time with most, obviously has the biggest chance of becoming your love interest.
That's not the only criteria of course but when best friends reach relationship status, this is why.

If the show wanted to set up literally anyone else for Star, she would've liked spending more time with them.
It's arguable whether Marco likes spending time with Jackie or Star more. We don't really know that. But at least I've picked up that Star is more important to Marco than anyone else.

Marco doesn't understand "love", and I'm not trying to trick you with philosophical bullshit. His whole life he's been putting pussy on a pedestal, and now that he has it he doesn't know what to do with it. The crew says Hungry Larry/Spider with a Top Hat was placed to air whenever in the season (has to air around Halloween, no matter which episodes come before it), and so is the only episode to air "out of order."

So more likely Star arrived August 2014 when school began, Season 1 ended in late October, Hungry Larry etc. happened sometime in the early S2 episodes (and Girls' Day Out too, so that Star would know Janna), Gift of the Card would be at least February 2015 (at least 6 months since Star arrived on Earth, and that's assuming the card expires in a very short time), and then Starcrushed is somewhere from April-June 2015, depending on when their high school ends the year since that varies.

There's absolutely no way to say Season 1 somehow took place in summer when almost every S1 Ludo episode is obviously on a school day. It's less than one year on Earth (freshman school year) that gets thrown off by Hungry Larry, which was out of order.

It's also worth noting that the book has errors in this regard too, with the Love Sentence concert having to take place in 2016 going by the date provided when that can't be true.

That also makes sense. The contradictory information is probably thanks to the massive hiatus that took place between the first and second seasons, and combining that with how the first season was more episodic that continuous the chronology has been thrown completely out of wack.

A diary is a personal thing - crush or not, you don't want another person to know what you wrote about them.

Star clearly wasn't consciously aware of her feelings for Marco until Bon Bon. In that episode, she is confused about her feelings and doesn't understand why seeing Jackie and Marco together hurts her until later on.

this is entirely fair and I brought this up in a thread way back and another anon pointed out that while that's true, good storytelling takes precedence over moral telling/trope telling/subverting

and the way things have been built up in the show is really organic for Star's interest in Marco

Is there value in Star and Marco not getting together? Yes. But does that value inherently take precedence over good storytelling that isn't hamfisted? No. This also applies for Starco, and as a Starco supporter, I really want Jackie to get a good resolution (namely, her taking the initiative to break up with Marco) instead of getting bad storytelling where she's dumped in an episode with no ramifications.

Rafael's talk with Marco really showed how much Marco is still pedestaling Jackie DESPITE not knowing her at all.

Marco THINKS he has with Jackie what he has with Star: the best friend, deep connection, partners-in-crime thing. Except that's not true at all, because that's what he has ONLY with Star. And Rafael calls him out on that. It'll be interesting to see if he talks more to Marco about it.

She didn't realize it until Bon Bon, otherwise she wouldn't have spent half the episode wandering about trying to figure out her feelings. If she knew she already had feelings for Marco and was already in denial, it would have been obvious to her why seeing Marco and Jackie together in such a way is suddenly hurting her and she wouldn't call them 50 times or stare at their photo trying to figure out what's wrong and do other shit. On the contrary, she'd be more likely to bury her mind in the clown seance business like Janna did so that she doesn't have to think about it.

The "I want my beloved to be happy" scenario was happening later, in Just Friends.

Gonna chime in-I think a lot of valid points are being brought up, and there's obviously a lot of unknowns that may or may not be cleared up. Here's my 2 cents for a timeline of sorts regarding the feelings between the two.

In S1, Marco develops some small unconscious degree of feelings for Star. She's attractive, the coolest girl he knows, etc. But they're not conscious and he still has the pedestal for Jackie. BMB rolls around and Marco is a bit jealous of Tom and Star going (ESPECIALLY when he sees her in the dress), but the ending of that episode causes Marco to think that Star is basically saying "I only see you as a friend, that's all I really want right now" when in reality she's only saying "I don't need you to be my hero and save me." Regardless, any romantic feelings for Star Marco had were likely quashed/gone by this point, and after this episode we see Marco's thing for Jackie come into more play.

Star likely found Marco cute and funny but may have only developed a small crush on him by the time of S2. I say this for 2 reasons: 1, even though a diary is a private affair, Star didn't dip down when Marco was flipping through the part about Star's thoughts on Moon. It was specifically when Marco got to the chapter "My thoughts on Marco" that Star dipped down. Given that Star has only dipped down when Marco is about to die or when she's trying to save Glossaryck, her dipping down there means whatever Marco was about to read was very important (more than the other contents of the diary). It's likely Star wrote "wow he's cute/I have a small crush on him" but her feelings for him at this point were likely not too deep and she's still goo-goo over Oskar.

Here's the kicker: I think at this point, Star's very small crush on Marco didn't actually go away. Part 1 done, part 2 coming.

I think the show does a good job of showing how Star and Marco suck at dealing with emotions. They suppress them and lie about them. This plays into a lot of things.

One thing to note-remember when the guidance counselor asks Star if she has a crush on Marco? She goes "we're roommates and best friends" but she never actually says "no."

I think Star thought her crush on Marco went away by early/pre-BBtBC S2-when she has the emergency friend meeting in Starcrushed, she does say she finds Marco cute and that she used to have a little crush on him and that she got over it. I don't think Star is actually lying here. I think she's giving this truth but using it to deny the fact that her crush only grew larger as time passed (which is what everyone the group seems to know except Starfan).

Star isn't really consciously aware of her crush in Sleepover either. At this point, her feelings for Marco are growing, but Star genuinely thinks she wants Marco to get with Jackie because that's what best friends do, take care of and help each other. Also note Star's reactions to Oskar at this point are much less intense than S1, and her connection with Marco is only growing. In Sleepover, Star gets busted because her brain thinks she likes Oskar but her heart is starting to fall in love with Marco. And that whole spiel about "our brains and hearts disagree and we honestly don't know which is right/truthful/whatever" ties into that: Star isn't CONSCIOUSLY aware she is falling in love with Marco, she still thinks she loves Oskar. It's not a lie because her brain genuinely believes it, but her heart doesn't and that's what the cube picks up.

Star's brain only becomes conscious of her feelings for Marco in BBtBC, specifically when Marco shows up in the suit and Jackie sees him. Prior to that, she's totally cool with Marco going to the dance with Jackie and is pushing him to do so.

When she sees him in the suit, her heart is basically fully in the "falling for Marco hard" stage and her brain is starting to catch up because Star is consciously finally aware "wow Marco is REALLY attractive and I like that."

And when Star sees Jackie's expression which is very similar to her own, she realizes everything consciously. That Star does have a crush on Marco and is kinda falling in love with him. This is the first time Star expresses doubt over her pushing Marco to Jackie and it's the first time she consciously acknowledges the depth of her feelings-as more than just a little crush because she found Marco kinda cute.

The rest of S2 is Star trying to deny her feelings and suppress them and do what is "best" for Marco by not telling him her feelings and continuing to push him closer to Jackie.

Star does this because she's telling herself that Marco is happier with Jackie and that she knows what's best for him (to be with Jackie) and that it is her duty as a best friend to ignore her own feelings and push Marco with Jackie. This is also totally wrong because it removes Marco's agency and is an insult to the friendship in a way, but Star's intentions are good. Unfortunately, emotional suppression is a bad idea and the whole "I must not tell my best friend I have feelings for them and push them with someone else" thing is counter-productive and a load of shit. Star does cause a lot of this situation to happen (i.e. a lot of it is her fault), but she genuinely had the best intentions for Marco (even though her logic was flawed).

Star's crush on Oskar was about as deep as Marco's on Jackie. They were both really superficial and based on outward appearances/assumptions.

It was also based on the whole "Oskar is a bad boy who rebels against the system and his parents" which S1 Star was SUPER into (remember the drawing of her mom as a snake wrapping around, etc.)?

But Star's connection with Oskar was never really that deep, and as S2 rolls around and Star starts to face consequences for her actions and own up to them more/mature, the shine of Oskar starts to wear off. This progression is intentional and matches Star's situation/interests changing. By the time of Sleepover, Star doesn't actually have a thing for Oskar but she thinks she does, and by Starcrushed, Star's completely disillusioned with Oskar.

In this case it would depend on what the point of the story was meant to be. Star and Marco could have just as easily been played straight the entire way through, with them trying a relationship early, then having it not be right for them, followed by both pushing the other to succeed in their own lives as friends.

Star has noticeable, serious character flaws that have really big, bad consequences for her, her friends and family, and her people. Her character flaws have ACTUAL impact on the plot and necessitate her to become a better person/friend.

For every Star Wars, there are literally thousands of forgettable stories that follow the same pattern but don't get a fraction of Star Wars' success because they add nothing new to the table.

I know this argument has going on for a while but lemme just say that no star is not original and it is using a plot used 100 times already but that doesn't mean switching it up a bit makes it good or even just better. They had already set up this story doing something like jackie and marco ending up together isn't gonna make it better automatically because now it's missing one cliche. Not only that but its already written a certian way, the only way they could have gone against cliches and made it good is if jackie, marco, and star's relationships with each other were changed up so the drama between them could be more dynamic

Nope, just a random anon. I like doing deep analyses (or at least comprehensive) of friendships/relationships on shows, because that's generally what draws me in. Have read some of Seddm's stuff, so I'm really flattered to be compared to that to be honest.

I'll probably take what I posted and write it up in a bit more detail/with screencaps from the show or something this weekend, just gotta finish the MCAT and then I get a week of freedom.

Seddm, meanwhile, seems to be too prone to take a simple phrase or a sentence and turn into into a large well-written sugar-coated wall of text with little or no point to get across. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading his thoughts, but often I'm just like "yeah, it's nice, but why couldn't you simply write "I don't know" or "No, I don't think that's what will happen, but this will..." and that's it?"

I see what you're saying-I like that aspect, mainly because I usually have my own opinion on the question/answer and Seddm's stuff is padding, but I can see why it's also off-putting too

I'll polish that stuff up this weekend and make it into a more-organized post but thanks again for the feedback, it's really appreciated
