By the way, if you're interested in the lore I'll let you know that Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension came out.
It's a pretty fun diary/scrapbook made by Star and Marco, and it contains bits of lore, interviews to the characters and stuff.
Also there's the 8-part comic miniseries "Deep Trouble". We currently are at the 4th (but actually they could stop here if they don't sell).

I guess for the same reason you could how much of the show is actually important?

It provides a lot of fun information about the characters etc. and is written by someone on the show. If someone likes the show for what it is then they'd probably be interested in the book too.

Unless they just skip over every episode that doesn't move the plot along in a major way.

I haven't read it, but I know there is more in it than that. Especially about the villains and the history of Mewni. Also it likely sets up the appearance of new locations on the map and new characters in the show, like Ponyhead's sisters or Tom's father (he's a big guy).

The comics are nice, there is a young Moon/River backstory in Issue 2 so at least check that out.

Though with the sort-of implications that their history was more personal (though I still doubt romantic) and then something might have happened for Toffee to go full revenge, it sort of makes him almost comically inept to have kept fucking up toppling the kingdom in various ways over the past ~300 years (rather than his plan now something he came up with after his defeat by Moon).

It could probably still go either way at this point though. Who knows where or from whom his Mewman skulls came from.

I actually haven't read all that much fan fic myself; just saw that linked somewhere once and thought it was good considering how much out there is just romantic Starco stuff.

It's definitely possible the show could go in a situation like the fic and have Toffee just betray Moon for the sake of his revenge plan, since him just being her enemy/a killer of Butterfly women was all I'd thought toward the middle of the season.

But now I dunno. Makes Toffee more competent to just have come up with all this after the conflict with Moon, even working the finger she shot off into it. Could also work for an angle of "Moon's a decent person but fucked up massively at some point, Toffee's done enough damage that whatever crusade he may have started out on is no longer justified." Mewnipendence stuff basically.

Just as long as it's not romantic I don't really care where they go with it, and even then I have enough faith in the show now that I feel they could pull that off decently if they have to.

Honestly, even finding good Starco fanfiction is...difficult. To be fair, the current status quo makes it really hard to write any Starco fanfiction without a lot of divergent-from-canon stuff or just plain old OOC behavior (both of which are pet peeves for me).

I think having the "Moon is good overall but fucked up really bad with Toffee" is a good path, since it fits with what we've seen (the tapestries of the Queens are likely embellishments like the princess songs, Mewmens have done some pretty awful stuff to monsters, etc.) and gives a lot of potential for character development of Moon and Toffee. Seeing how Eclipsa plays into all of it will be interesting-I imagine she doesn't really like Mewni much but also feels bad about what Toffee has become (speculation on my part).

With regards to Moon/Toffee....I don't think it'd fit in the context of the show and what we've seen, but I have faith in the crew to pull it off if they do go that route. I think they're the first crack pairing (by which I mean one that's unsupported by canon and weird given the personalities/relationship between characters we have seen) that I want to have happen in an AU (also because MonStar is adorable)

At this point I would be shocked if they had Toffee be "really" Mewman. Showing him in the past with the same appearance (though I guess for the sake of argument that could have been post-transformation), even giving him an actual species name and an implied connection with Rasticore, etc.

I think the most they'd go in that direction is him maybe being related to Eclipsa, though even then I don't think that's necessarily going to happen. Heinous actually could be more possible as her descendant.

Why don't they just set it during season 2 before Bon Bon? I'm assuming that's what the comic is doing.
As for the latter, that's solved through good writing, which is hard as it is to find in fan fiction. Granted, Star is probably very tough to write for. A writer has to strike a careful balance with her energy.

This show seems to get a lot of OOC stuff in fanart etc. Not really in a terrible way, just more portraying Star/Marco as too generic or like a standard romance or whatever. I'm not a shipper but I'd probably read more fic, period, if more actually really explored the show's universe rather than shipping scenarios.

Definitely hard to say how accurate the tapestries are. I still kinda see Moon's as pretty accurate but I think Eclipsa wasn't evil and might serve as Star's mentor in some form. Maybe sort of gray and hostile toward Mewni, but not seeking revenge.

I actually totally thought during the first season that no way would Moon/Toffee ever be a thing, they wouldn't imply monster/Mewman romance on this show ever, but then Eclipsa blew that out of the water and now I can see it as a possibility since they're clearly allowed to go there.

Pretty much. I wouldn't be surprised if people took the amount of energy she has as her being retarded. Star is the type to act first without thinking but that doesn't mean she's stupid. Being prone to doing stupid things without thinking does not make a stupid person, it just means that person is pretty undisciplined. We've seen plenty of times that when Star does slow down she thinks and acts like anyone else would.

She fucking sucks at math though. Her mind is not be geared towards such an academic subject. Thanks to her creativity though she's most likely great in other fields.

Yea, Star is garbage at math (at least right now), but she'd probably be better in other things (and given how she's maturing and becoming more patient, she'd likely get passable at math), even in the sciences.

Star's probably never going to be good at subjects that require a rigid mode of thought, like maths and sciences, where there's often only one answer.
But in anything where she can use her mind more freely? She probably excels. She's made up her own spells and presumably that isn't something just anyone can do. So any subject like English or History, where she can express a bit of her individuality, she probably does well. If she applies herself, that is.

I think Star's mildly dumb at a lot of things but also skilled in unusual areas for someone her age, like obviously combat, and is a prodigy when it comes to magic. She also makes a lot of stupid decisions but I'd attribute those more to character flaws and not thinking things through, rather than her being so dumb she thinks her dumb shit is normal (same result either way but yeah, not a retard).

You mean cute as in how we see her or how her universe sees her?
Because in universe Star does a lot of things that are decidedly weird/creepy. We, the audience, think they're endearing, but we're not the ones having to tolerate that face to face on a day to day basis.
Also the animation helps.

Maybe I should read some fanon stuff. Not sure where to look though, probably have to go through heaps of mess to find anything good.

I love Marco so much.. Sometimes I think that I would like to be with him, but only for a second, but then I snap back to reality. I remember that I'm just a weird flat-chested alien bug. He's seen me as a gross insect monster spewing purple cocoons everywhere. He knows what a socially awkward dork I am, how I can't even fistbump properly and am confused by all these weird earth customs.

I'm just some hick from a primitive medieval backwoods shithole. Marco laughed about Mewni, how it doesn't even have running water and how amazed I was about his cool toilet. It made me cry at the time, but looking back on it, Marco was right. Marco deserves better than me.

Maybe if I can play matchmaker and get those two hooked up, I can live vicariously through Jackie. Marco deserves happiness and love, and if I can help him achieve that with someone beautiful like Jackie.. maybe that will be enough.

I'm not going to claim Janna is "developed" in any way (in the sense that we don't really have any emotional perspective on her, her character hasn't changed, etc.) but I think she is a good character to keep around. She is mostly used for humor but there are a lot of things that can and have been done with her.

She's a close female friend to Star on Earth, and so gives her an opportunity to interact with someone who isn't just Marco. Janna has also reacted to Star's crush on Marco a few times in the past.

Her dynamic with Marco is pretty fun as well, as someone who can fuck with him without being a one-off or a villain. Basically it's good for Star and Marco to have someone to bounce off of besides each other.

Her mischievous nature, skill at getting personal information, and interest in magic and occult/otherworldly stuff also give her potential uses in individual episodes or a larger plot. Compare to Ferguson and Alfonzo, whose characterization was mostly "Marco's loser friends." Like in Hungry Larry or Bon Bon, Janna can actually create potential episode plots through her known character traits.

I think interacting with Jackie could also show us new sides of Jackie. I don't at all expect Jarco to last beyond Season 3, but if they do keep Jackie around that could be a good way to develop her further.

What I'm saying is Janna is the best human/Earth character this show has and offers the most potential for interesting situations; they have no reason to drop her and I doubt they will either.

Was mainly thinking that in an episode showing Marco and Jackie's relationship Janna could speak with Jackie a few times, maybe bring her along if they go to Mewni, etc.

That way when Jackie and Marco break up they might have ended up showing a side of Jackie's personality that could still make her a decent character to keep around for the supporting cast.

I love Kelly and yet she doesn't have anywhere near that many defined traits beyond her relationship with Tad. She was the character in Starcrushed most obviously there to give Star a "disposable" friend, even more than StarFan13, and Pony Head is commonly seen as a bitch among the fanbase anyway.

I don't disagree that Janna is comic relief, but they've done a good job with that role for her and have put her in an increased role in a way that feels pretty natural, and I think a character like that is good to keep around.

I believe there is a fair amount of fantasizing/self-inserting involved. I mean, just imagine: you have a crush on a girl who is considered very attractive, and somehow she doesn't have a boyfriend yet and she actually notices you, and she turns out to be very chill and understanding and ready to tolerate all your spaghetti, and she likes you back despite you being an awkward sweaty nervous shit. A lot of guys can only dream of this. Marco is one hell of a lucky dude - his crush was still interested in him even after the Naysaya incident, FFS!

So maybe a lot of people don't as much like the character of Jackie, as just the idea that such a girl can exist and respond positively to a guy who likes her, something I presume a lot of people wish had happened or would happen to them. After all, Marco is our proxy in the fantasy world of SvtFoE, and when we can't have, or at least haven't got yet, something we want in real life, we often root for fictional characters we relate to to succeed in our place. And there is nothing wrong, "autistic", or "degenerate" about that, and it can actually inspire us to keep trying to succeed as well. This, I think, is why Jarco is appealing to many people, and is, in fact, good ship.

It's still shit compared to Starco, though, and therefore must sink eventually. Because Starco is so absolutely cute and indisputably perfect it makes every other ship, good or bad, look like shit in comparison.

Countries like China (under certain dynasties but not all), didn't have widespread chattel slavery, and would use prison-labor instead. Unlike a slave, your property, who you have a self-interested desire to keep healthy and alive, the same way I want to keep my car in good working order; prisoners were expendable, and were often worked to death much quicker than the average chattel slave.

Mewni probably doesn't have slaves. They just use peasants as labor, and exterminate monsters rather than enslave them.

There are a couple of routes people are afraid the writers will take in season 3, but overall everyone here is ok with Jarco ending in the first episode of season 3 as long as it's well written.

I'm on team Starco and I'm 99% sure it is endgame, but I really don't see Jarco ending so soon. If anything, it's probably going to be a bit more prominent for a while, now that Jackie realizes she has competition maybe she'll actually be more active.

My best guess based on me just bullshitting the show's likely story structure while we're still at the halfway point is:

The time between Star being sent back to Mewni and whatever ensues before Star and Marco get back together for real is stressful and dangerous enough that the two of them can relax into a pattern of "okay, we're safe now." I don't imagine them being apart for too long but I think they might play with that for a couple episodes.

Basically feelings cool down a bit while they're forced to be apart, the situation keeps them from thinking about it too hard when they're together until it reaches a boiling point where they can't NOT think about it any longer. Though like I said, there would be tension on both sides during these "platonic" interactions. It just wouldn't lead to anything definite or official until S4.

Maybe some forced/accidental kiss or something, like they're in disguise or something and have to keep up the act, I dunno. But they wouldn't go beyond that with a full season left (and I think even that's too far for S3, and too cliché besides).

Marco's feelings would probably get more focus than Star's in this case too.

Like Star still has feelings for him but has mostly accepted he won't feel that way, while just before or after the Jarco breakup Marco is beginning to see Star in a new light. Pretty mild stuff at first though, like the way Star acted before her crush was confirmed.

Takes a while for it to eventually hit they're both on the same page.

I could see Jarco breaking up in the first couple of episodes of season 3, but I cannot imagine seeing Starco until the ending of season 4 honestly. And that's IF it happens. Jackie has a lot of potential to be used by Toffee to fight Star, since I suspect Toffee will use minions for the entire season. That's some good story potential there.

I'm all for Starco but even if it happens early in season 3 (because so many people want it to happen) we will still have people thrashing the writing on the show, no matter how well it's handled.

2) Yes, Tom had ulterior motives. Star suspected it, but she claims she was prepared for any fishy moves from him. Having said that, I feel she was open to the idea of a relationship with Tom had Marco not showed up and triggered Tom. In a way Marco himself left the possibility of Starco open way before Star did.

In the books, he brags about being god basically; but from the show it's obvious that he likes to obfuscate, be miss-leading, or outright lie at times.

His powers are certainly limited. Remember the episode where he's frustrated by the bureaucracy and lack of magic at the magic high commission HQ, and the episode where he is essentially panicking when Star goes into her wand, and just barely is able to save her.

If you choose to believe that he limited his powers himself, I guess that's possible. To me it seems more likely that those constraints and weaknesses are intrinsic to his character, not just him pretending.

Fan genderswaps don't have official names. We didn't even get an official Boy!Star design until Mathmagic.
I see Marcia as most common for Girl!Marco, but Maria shows up pretty frequently too.
Comet is by far the most popular Boy!Star name, when they don't just keep calling him Star.

I don't like Comet much as a name, it sounds like something you'd name a dog. Star isn't exactly a person name either but it fits the character.
It's hard to think of an alternative. I think "Hale" kind of works, it's one syllable and has a lot of association with comets. The biggest thing against it is it breaks the "celestial" naming theme, but that's not an absolute rule (Festiva) and it can work by relating to "hail," which even fits better with his thunderbolt cheeks.

Glossaryck knows what he's doing.
He knew Ludo was going to try to steal him in Bon Bon, that's why he burned that page with a spell that did something with rats.
He didn't really make an effort to train Ludo, he was deliberately obtuse and let him waste a lot of time and effort for absolutely no reason before he even started teaching him the most basic spell.
Because he's not there to train Ludo, he's still training Star.

Being a friend isn't part his job.

But he's doing this because it's what's best for Star. Even if she doesn't understand why he did it and never forgives him, he has to do everything he can to make her the best Queen she can be.

Star really cared about him, more than we really see in the show. The stuff we read in the guidebook is kind of weird but pretty sweet, like how he signs his letter with "I love you" and she says he called her his "favorite student," whether or not it's true. It really hurt when he "betrayed' her.
