>>91092285Some fans tried to frame Ian J-Q, Sugar's husband (?) and SU co-producer or whatever, as a pedophile because he tried to say that bullying people for drawing "problematic" fanart (under 18 yo characters in romantic situations) is bad and people should be allowed to draw and ship whatever they want. (it's related to the Zamii clusterfuck).
Lauren Zuke,
who since had a meltdown and quit apparently because Sugar didn't let her make her otp canon among other reasons, -apparently- also got hounded on pretty much every media account she had including MMORPGs or such. Like imagine just trying to level up at WOW and people are spamming shipping questions at you through the chat and getting pissy when you don't answer.
That's just hearsay though, and there's probably other stuff too, but the thing is that the crewniverse was very, very communicative and open and "real" at first, which the (surprisingly big, and surprisingly intense and opinionated) fanbase took to mean that they have a duty to answer everything, and they grew demanding and started to think the crewniverse owed them answers.
This combined with tumblr's current tendency to demand that anything they dislike be BANNED because [made-up reason for why thing x is super problematic / ableist / racist / normalizes abuse], and SU in general drawing the crazies to it like moths to a flame because it's popular and has a progressive reputation led to a pretty huge shitfest where in my understanding a lot of people were getting upset at the creators for not officially supporting their OTP, or condemning their NOTP, or whatever, and tried to rope them into fandom drama.
Fans be crazy, man. Shippers even more so. Shipper fans who are also sjw's; watch out.
