Anyone else feel really happy for Marco? Like I'm pretty much a Starco guy. but I felt a sense of real happiness for Marco's character. He's overcame a lot of personal issues and seems really happy with Jackie. He seems a lot more confident and less guarded than he was at the start of the series.

I feel almost a personal sense of happiness for this character, which I didn't expect when I started watching this show

this doesn't make sense, Marco is not obligated to love Star, he is still being a great friend who cares for her and he doesn't even know how Star really feels, if anything Star was the one who explicitly stated that he just wants them to be friends and she has been all over Oscar since she sar him. There is noone to blame here, it just is how it is.

I'll give you that. That's why I'm more for Star and Marco getting together, because their relationship was built overtime through their friendship.

I think Jackie's character will get built more overtime. Since she's canon gf, there's no way the show will avoid developing her character unless they pull some Ferg-Alfonso thing in Season 3

I'm pretty sympathetic to Star. I can imagine the pain of seeing someone you like end up with someone else. I think she should definitely be happy for her best friend though, especially since she was the one who organized the date, and pushed Marco and Jackie together for the past two seasons.

The most hilarious part about this whole thing is that Star is completely responsible for Marco hooking up with Jackie. Throughout the past episodes Star has always helped Marco out almost like a wing-girl to bring out his confidence around her. To all Starco fans out there, no matter how bleak it looks it seems very likely Marco will realize he has feelings for Star and not Jackie at the end of season 2. Star will also confess/make her feelings known in Face the Music. The crew expected this reaction and that's why they saved it for the 3rd to last episode of the season and not the season finale.

Having said that I'm surprised a lot of you are taking this pain very personally.

The crew knew what kinda reaction they'd get with this recent development and that's why they left it for the 3rd to last episode, not the season finale. Wait until Monday to find out for sure but I can guarantee you Starco won't seem as bleak as it seems now.

Jackie has been shown to have no real major flaws or misgivings toward Marco. She's actually quite understanding, receptive, and shares many of the same interests as Marco. The only competition in her mind is an unnamed, unknown kid from skater camp who may or may not actually exists.

For them to suddenly out of the blue in season 3 drop Jarco just to have Star and Marco end up together would feel like a major copout. Sorry, but there will be no "end game" last minute comeback by Star.

It's basic storytelling. We see this exact story constantly and so far, aside from the generally zaniness of the cartoon, it's been by the numbers.

I'd like it if the show turned out to not be about romance at all and shifted toward focusing on Star just pulling herself together as a person and fixing her parents' mistakes and etc etc etc, more Mewni shit and stuff, but the way this show handles its character beyond Marco and Star doesn't make that seem likely.

Well it's definitely still a show with episodes of SoL and random fun. It has shown many times that even those deemed "Filler" actually is or becomes lore-tied. Weird though that Ludo became more than what he was. You'd think that the cliche thing to do was to kick him out and introduce someone more menacing than Toffee but no, they took him in and gave him his own development.

So because Jackie is essentially a non-character that guarantees she's with Marco permanently? Being an undeveloped near-blank slate of a character means the writers can go anywhere they want with Jackie, and makes it easy to have a breakup happen without it seeming forced.

Also, "last minute"? You realize there's upward of 40 episodes left in this show even if it DOESN'T get a 4th season.

In any case having loads of threads tends to be troublesome; it pisses off non-fans who start to crumble about cluttering up the board, and having to follow several threads for possibly interesting discussion takes more effort etc

Anyone feel the star Marco just friends being their second favorite song thing is important? Its Jackie's favorite and it also serves as a brick shot through the hull of starco while making Marco stronger. But I bet that their actual favorite song will be something more romantic. Also star doesn't want to be queen and has already been shown to be willing to kill a mermaid to do it and Jackie may in fact be a mermaid and has given star reason to dislike her coupled with the fact that she may become corrupted. I'm kind of nervous for the season finale there is no way she will kill Jackie but I don't even want her to try. Jackie is to cool and nice to be fucked over like that and the whole kill a mermaid thing is oddly specific for getting out of her duties coupled with the fact that jackie may be one.

Nah, he's still integral to the show. There's likely to be little more development for him this season, outside of possibly realising Star has feelings for him. His development will come next season, Star's going to be the focus of the finale most likely.

The next big thing we need with Jackie, for character development purposes both for her and the actual main characters, is an understanding of her flaws.
