>>87926878That still fits into her character as being unstable. Holly is simply kind of unstable... but so are a lot of people, and Endtown was just a thin, barely functioning veneer keeping people from going completely mad. And we all saw how that turned out.
The only people we've seen who can deal with this shit are either people who were already scarred, like Wally, or people who are too stupid or insane to care, like Kirbee and Mallard.
Oh, and couples. We've seen couples cope as well. If only barely. But I can say without a hint of irony that Endtown is one of the bleakest post-apocalyptic settings I have ever seen, despite the trappings of saturday morning cheer it still has. Hell, its opening joke was a guy so maddened at eating any more beans that he walked to his own execution. And that's the lighthearted part of the comic.
Seriously, though, the idea that Holly is a shitty person or that she's character assassinated is kind of silly. She's a person who was barely hanging on and became completely unhinged after a series of extremely traumatizing events on top of a bunch of other extremely traumatizing events. I've got family who had to go through some serious shit, and the sort of thing they experienced is the sort of thing you see in this comic. Now take your standard housewife who gets upset at random shit, and put her through that. That's Holly.
