>>87117183>14 was reasonable marrying age in medieval timesDepends. In the circles where people were married off for political alliance reasons, sure, kids were engaged off at age 5 in order to form a union between families. When it was actually consummated is a different matter.
But among the peasantry etc, not really. The wife had to be a strong and smart enough woman to run and manage the household and also put in a LOT of physical work. Teenagers were too feeble and too inexperienced in life to properly do that - and besides, with the medieval diet, most girls only got their periods at 15-16 or even later.
At least in my country (northern europe) historical records show that in the past centuries, as far back as records go, women among the peasantry married on average at ages 19-23.
The whole "all the girls got married and started having sex at 14 in ye olden days" meme is sort of bullshit. It's not practical to marry girls off that young. They don't make good wives and they die off more easily when breeding and can't take care of the kids as well. Even in the countries where it's done today it leads to a much higher amount of complications in pregnancy and birthing because the girl's bodies aren't ready and there's more deaths, more problems etc.
