Instead, they did something that has generally been regarded as a pure PR move. Namely, they hired 5 female gamers to play as their "pro team." These girls range in rank from, iirc, high plat to low diamond, meaning they're around 90th percentile for League players. However, the difference between them and an actual pro team is astronomical.
Two teams who faced them have faced disciplinary action for their conduct during matches. One team banned 5 support champions, and allegedly a review of team comms revealed they did so in deliberate reference to support being the most popular role for girls. The other team drew the game out far longer than necessary, killing their opponents an absurd number of times when it was obvious they could win whenever they wanted.
The final point I will make is that, while I don't think any all-female team could have been competitively viable, these girls are not exactly the pinnacle of female League players. There are female players in high diamond, master, and (rarely) Challenger. So it is a tiny bit more nuanced than that one poster implied.
