Writers seem to think that women are all united by a deep universal bond of familiarity that transcends friendships and males are essentially awkward aliens incapable of connecting or communicating with them no matter how long they've known each other.

honestly i think finn has just outgrown them. finn himself has went through remarkable growth and maturity development but everyone around him aside from a few people remain just as shallow and immature as they were on day one. he really needs to just leave Ooo.

If you're desperate for friendship and two people interact with you in a friendly way long enough, you'd likely consider them friends. Finn otherwise doesn't have any real friends besides Jake, and they're brothers.
