Four games in and the gameplay's already stagnant as fuck, it wasn't even new when Asylum came out, Rocksteady just did a really good job at piecing them together and in presenting it.
Doesn't help that other games copy it immensely, so you have series like Shadows of Mordor's combat being literally Batman but you actually kill the orcs, so even playing other games work towards burning you out on the series.
Also, while AssCreed gets a game almost every year they change shit and add gimmicks, they have you play different protagonists in different time periods: the first two games are night and day, Brotherhood added a guild system, the last Ezio game tried a crappy tower defense, 3 added a focus on forests and had naval combat, 4 made it all about sailing and wilderness, there was one focused on 4 player co-op and the recent ones have turned into Assassin's Creed Diablo with RPG mechanics, skills, dialogue choices and a loot system.
Honestly, I'm sick of Batman's droning voice exacerbated by the stupid shit that comes out of his mouth, I'm sick of Gotham and Unreal Engine, Rocksteady only had 2 games in them with this "Formula". Origins is just an expansion pack to City and Knight's best feature is the AR challenges and the variety of characters you get to play as in them. Even if they got better writers that didn't just reuse the same villains and shove yet more Joker into it, if Rocksteady were to make a fifth Batman game, I wouldn't want it, I played the rest too much to care about the same open world, the same watered down "detective" work, the same combat, the same Riddler busywork... the only blessing would be they wouldn't still be using UE3
