Anyone else think that this looks great? I love frozen so I'm excited. The only thing I'm not crazy about is Anna's new design, it's just not as cute as her original/frozen fever design.

Frozen 1 went through shitloads of rewrites into the last minute and was a rushed clusterfuck as a result. Maybe Frozen 2 will manage to be better, at least they won't be still figuring out the personalities of the main characters of the movie in june when the premiere is in november

There's supposed to be at least 2 new characters since Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling Brown have been officially attached to the cast since some time already. So maybe they're them?

The girl at least seems to have Sami-type clothing, especially the belt sash, so maybe she's part of Kristoff's backstory, or a nod to the Robber Girl from the original fairytale.

The thing that strikes me the most about this is that it looks good visually. When Frozen came out, many aspects of the CGI already seemed dated. I know there was some special advancements with how they animated snow, but many other aspects like hair, facial movements, the physics of characters' movement in the air, and distance shots felt janky, and there were even straight-up animation errors like things clipping through each other. This actually looks good for its time.

Frozen 1 was rewritten a shitload of times and was incredibly rushed. Like they COMPOSED For the First time in Forever in June when the premiere was in November. It's why the animation is so shit in some scenes and the crowds are full of clones, because they were racing against the clock.

Imo Frozen has some stuff that's done really well, some scenes are really beautiful, the snow is good - but maybe those were finished earlier, and there are a LOT of scenes or details that look horrid. They managed to pull it off impressively well, considering everything, but yeah.

Why the FUCK did they design the logo to say ‘Frozen II’ when they’re advertising it as ‘Frozen 2,’ hashtags and all? Sure, Roman numerals make a sequel look more epic and dramatic, but they could’ve at least kept this consistent. no it doesnt. character animation is good but nature is missing the moos.

the air avatar action is not shown properly. wind in the north makes sounds and bring temperature which either freezes you or warms you instant. also in the north the air is very humid when it is not freezing. the tree leafs dont float in the wind there because they are usually wet and heavy. they literally are glued to the ground by water. i would rather see the trees bend down that leafs flying around. the main point in north coastal areas are non-stop 3 weeks long fogs.

Yep, I love the first movie, I mean love it, but every time I start to watch a scene from the middle there's this "whoa did it look this bad" reaction for a moment before the story immerses me again. I think it's proof of how the story is at the heart of everything; if you have shit story but fine animation, it's just a polished turd, but if something in the story clicks people will forgive shit plot and dreadful animation.

I guess the success of Venom also indicates that if something in the story or the dynamics clicks, people will love it even if the plot is so full of holes it's practically a loose net

I think that's a fair comparison. Venom was stupid as shit and I could still watch it all day. There really are just movies that, in retrospect, suck. But we love them anyways. Frozen taps pretty strongly into an emotional core that viewers want to see so despite its flaws it still strongly resonates with audiences.

Who knows maybe it turns out fine, but most likely it's going to be yet another formulaic thing to safely maximize the profits.

Also it's weird, but there's something about those environments that's off or inconsistent.
I mean I don't think the very realistic animation style in the darker scenes matches with the brighter areas or the stylized characters well. Water looks realistic and so does the dark stone.
But the trees and the interior of their castle are in a different league and more stylized.
I can't remember what movie it was, one of those surf things and they toned down the realism of the ocean on purpose. I think they should be doing the same here.
Just because they have the processing power to make things look real doesn't mean they should. Especially if you have characters that are extremely stylized.

There's a clear difference between the Roman 'II' and the Arabic '2.' This'll be even more unbearable than people fucking up 'Incredibles 2,' or that shit Disney tried to pull with Ralph Breaks the Internet's original title.

If they want to promote the sequel as 'Frozen 2,' the logo should directly reflect that. If they wanted to present it as 'Frozen II,' they should've announced it as such years ago. Now the #Frozen2 hashtag has been active far too long for it to be changed to #FrozenII, so Disney needs to follow through with that by updating the logo. They've still got time.

I mean, sure there's more and more lbgtq rep in cartoons all the time, which is fine, but times change slow and Disney really isn't daring and cutting edge progressive. They play it safe. First gays as background characters in tv shows, then gays as named characters in tv shows, then gays as secondary characters in movies and tv shows, maybe even main characters, in ways that are not ending montages. Then when there's a successful tv show with a gay (from the start out gay, not ending montage surprise confirmation gay) lead, there'll start to be more gay secondary characters in the movies too, and when those prove successful enough, there'll be a gay lead.

We'll get there, but we're not there yet.

Hans actually saved Elsa from Weselton's men and factually only ordered Elsa's execution after Anna had come back, dying from an ice curse and saying Elsa cursed her to death. Hans also had the support of the nobles and the Arendelle mobility.

Meanwhile Weselton ordered his men to kill Elsa on sight BEFORE it'd turned out she cannot stop the winter and before Anna had shown up claiming Elsa froze her heard (completely omitting "by accident").

Also seeing as Weselton is "The Duke of Weselton", as in Weselton the country, it's possible Weselton is actually a duchy. Hans on the other hand isn't the ruler of the Southern Isles.

Weselton is actually a lot shittier than Hans, but that's ignored because he's also humorous and comical when not plotting murder and exploitation

Hans was the way he was because of his fucked up abusive family. Elsa's family might not have been AS bad, but giving Hans a redemption arc would fit in entirely with the themes of Frozen.

But even just with what the first movie gave us, the theme of having to actually spend time and work on your relationships instead of just expecting everything to be fine from the get-go, whether it's a sibling or romantic relationship, was pretty established throughout the entire movie.

I mean, the movie kinda introduced that theme but never really capitalized on it. Well, especially not from Elsa's side, she keeps pushing Anna away until she fucked up and it's too late and instead of putting in the hard work of fixing the damage of that relationship, literal magic ex machina saves the day and makes everything alright. The heart of the story is still there it just misses beats here and there.

As many mentioned before Frozen had a very rough production with a lot of changes in the last minutes. The trailers didn't reflect the non final vision. I have to admit there is little chance the final Frozen 2 will be as serious as the first trailer but I hope they balance it out with the fun and games.

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if every scene in this teaser is promotional throwaway material. The stinger at the end with Anna grabbing Kristoff's sword certainly is. And I'm not saying that because hurr durr stop emasculating men; it just clearly wouldn't fit in a coherently-directed story.

With that said, I still hold out hope that the teaser is tonally-representative of the movie.

The scenery looks too realistic for the super stylized characters. Not to say either element looks bad on it's own, but the scenery makes the characters look worse than they are because they're jarring within the world.

Yeah the beach looks insanely detailed, the water and rocks and everything is beautiful and realistic but Elsa sticks out like a sore thumb. Maybe they'll close the gap a little by the time it comes out.

Looking back, I can tell that Frozen's rewrites had a severe impact on it's quality consistency, but I can still say that I legitimately loved it up until Anna meets Elsa in the ice castle. Everything after that is kinda eeehhhh.

It just screamed of executive meddling. The worst part is that it doesn't even let you go to either the town, castle or Elsa's fortress of solitude, which just means you walk around a featureless mountain aside from a brief spell in a random ice temple (that the Organisation member elaborately creates in 5 seconds) which is clearly thrown in to pad time out.

It's possible! But I'd really wait to see how it turns out. Not to stop speculation of course, that's all in good fun, but don't get attached to an interpretation of the plot based on this single trailer is what I'm saying.

In that vein, the tone of this trailer at least is very serious. Mystery, danger, that sort of stuff. Elsa seems cut off from the group at one point either by choice or by circumstance. Frozen 1 wasn't a happy go lucky movie but it's Disney, so it hard it's fair share of Olaf nonsense taking up time. I doubt they'd stray too far from that formula of success. Though with six years Jesus Christ has it really been six years? between the movies they could be trying to capitalize on the aging market. Kids who saw the first movie when they were 7-8 will be 13-14 now, old enough to maybe want a more serious movie.

Other than it is tight, the clothing is not really feminine or seductive. Elsa's original dress was very flashy and sexual. The change may not even for an SJW reason but to fit the possibly serious tone of the entire movie. It is hard to keep focus on the story when one of the characters is constantly standing out of the crowd.

I think after the amount of money F1 made and still makes gave them absolute creative freedom in every regard. If they fuck it up I'm sure the execs will bury them alive and the already inevitable F3 will play extra safe but so far I have faith in them.

Frozen is basically really high quality 3D anime, of course Japanese would love. If a Japanese studio had done adaptation of the original Snow Queen it probably would have been something like this, and the film translates to Japan very easily, from characters to personality, more in-depth RPG-esque world building than usual "it's a fairy tale" bs, blonde (Japan has obsession with blondes) sisters that are perfect for siscon shipping etc.

He couldn't give a rats ass. She was going to die. And it was going to look like her sister did it. It's not about the how but the why in this case that really stuck out to me. You're thinking too much in realistic terms, it's a fantasy movie and Anna was dying from fantasy causes, her sister's magical bolt to the heart which froze her heart and which can be (and ultimately was) cured with an act of true love. Anna believed Hans had that true love for her and so he literally could have saved her, if he had ever loved her.

You're thinking about it in terms of "well this person got hypothermia so what am I supposed to do, my sympathies won't save them". Which is true in the real world, not Frozen world.
