But at the same time I honestly appreciate DC trying to put the menace back into magic, and for what it’s worth the latest issue did have some good ideas. To me the problem is more they opened with the Upside Down Man in the middle of another event and then doubled down with MUH POWERLEVELS on that retarded top 10 universal threats of DC Comics list. JLD #4 should’ve been their debut and frankly I wish they were kept seperate from Hecate to avoid humanising what seems to be their representative early on.
Like...remember Caestis of the Jin-En-Mok from Lucifer? She was a shapeshifting eldritch horror predating creation who associates fire with sexuality and bends even supernatural wills. She was a simple concept made very visceral, and stayed horrifying even after getting beaten in other ways.
