It seems Emerald needs a good chunk of concentration to maintain her illusions, they might not be really viable in 1v1.

But powers aside, I think a Emerald that just lashes out at the world after mommy Cinder dies makes for a better villain than actual Cinder.
We've spiralled ideas here before, from her going mental and trying to be Cinder to using her Semblance to make herself and maybe other belief Cinder is still around.

That Hunters are a result of Remnant's extremely low population.

From what I understand, the population of Remnant is very low for its level of development thanks to Grimm infesting most of land, forcing humans to stay in either a handful of heavily fortified major cities or go it alone in small settlements that will inevitably be overrun. A single Battle of the Somme or something would devastate the global population and probably wipe out the entire army of any kingdom that participated.

This would mean that warfare doctrines would emphasize quality of quantity, as illustrated by the Hunters academies which trains gifted children from birth to be killing machines. It would also explain why Atlas uses robots so heavily; to make up for the small pool of people you can put in uniform.

A small amount of highly-trained specialists being your main armed forces means that there is little need for centralization of command or structure, explaining why the only real "regular" armed forces we see are police or hastily drawn-upon militia. Atlas is the only exception due to its aforementioned robot army and larger regular army it can sustain thanks to the relative lack of Grimm up north.

It can't always work out and you still want to turn people into decent hunters at the end.
The point is you have all of the powerful people hang out with each other, socialize with other huntsmen, the friends of their friends are also huntsmen, etc.

In this scenario you don't care if official partners fuck, you just want to maximise the chance of huntsmen families, both because the children can be stronger than normal people and because children of huntsmen are more likely to believe in all the ideals that make decent huntsmen and start training early on.

Blake would be best. She's the most likely to be present in her child's life. I can see her staying in Menagerie running shit full time, mostly from her island mansion. After all she's been through and done herself she'd raise a good kid.

Weiss will be running the wealthiest company in the world and largely absent from her child's life and when she is around she'll be tired, stressed, and demanding (she means well by it at least).

Yang would be a total mess. Helicopter parent at one moment, trying too hard to be the "cool mom" the next. She's too clingy and intrusive, which pushes her kids away. This is all magnified by the fact that combat is the only way she can make a living so she's gone a lot and overcompensates when she's home.

Ruby is mom of the century when she's not on a mission, which means she's only really a mom for a few months out of the year. She really is perfect when she's home - loving, fun, always has a story ready, plays games/watches cartoons with them and genuinely likes it, etc. But she can't give up being a huntress and being a SEW means getting called for the jobs no one else can handle. This can be balanced out if she has a good spouse, but there'll always be a little resentment there.

What the fuck even was this episode? It was so damn surreal

Finished up volume 5. I thought the finale in Haven was handled okay. I'm sure a lot of people wanted more fighting and stuff, but it felt like a normal arc wrap-up to me.

I guess whenever I get the chance I'll binge Volume 6 and be caught up once and for all.

Last night I had a dream that the last episode of the volume was the Adam fight and after he got trashed by Yang and Blake he gets back up, completely uninjured goes "I'll admit, that was a pretty nice performance".

He goes to attack and Yang tries to punch him but they both don't get hit until suddenly Adam puts his Katana away and Yang just gets decapitated on screen. Like straight up fucking dies in time for the rest of the team to get there. The credits roll and it's nothing but silence.

I think it's too late now. Adam's character is just one-dimensional and this is the end of the road for him.

Next season starts and seems to be nothing but following Cinder for like 3 episodes as you leave the fans to go insane. We find out her backstory and everything and then we get the fairy tale mentioned by Pyrrha about the Shallow Sea and the reason RWBY survives.

Just make everyone stew for a bit, it would be great. Shows don't take chances anymore with crazy stuff. Instead we'll probably get some "revolutionary moment of empowerment" from forcing Blake and Yang together that lemmings will eat up.

Ruby would be great if she learns from Summer's mistakes once she becomes a mother, less so if she doesn't. I'd like to think she would, though. She's mature for her age, compassionate and principled. I think she'd be a good mother and a great role model.

Weiss would probably be a good mum. Tough but loving. Might be emotionally distant at times.

Blake is too self-involved and immature right now for me to even imagine her as a parent.

Yang is a bit of a mess right now, but I could see her doing well; again, it depends on whether she can overcome the sins of her own mother. Probably very loving, potentially clingy or passive-aggressive.

Overall either Ruby or Weiss would probably be the best.

They've done wrong this volume. The pacing has been up and down. The cast has become too large to effectively give all the characters focus so it's become a bit diffuse. Introducing Maria and Corvo, even if they are funny, only worsened this. This is partly what causes the asspain in some viewers because Ruby as the MC and primary driver of the plot has to be the focus and coordinating point of the show by necessity while some characters e.g. Weiss get relatively sidelined. It's a nothingburger seized on a vocal minority who are willfully ignoring RT's incredibly obvious narrative cues and setup. Some of them just come off like the same people who want Ruby to be infantilised.

Because they're shit arguments. They're based on resentment over screentime, a weak interpretation of Ruby's character and sometimes even hypotheticals.

There is one major reason why you feel your favourite characters didn't get to think for themselves, which is that having 10 characters to juggle increases complexity to a point that it's hard for them to get a word in. Ruby isn't even following her own plan, but no, not everyone chipped in. It's not like having four characters who all have time to talk.

Further to that, to say Yang or Blake or Qrow or JNR could have done X Y or Z isn't wrong, but it's not right either. You're just expressing a preference that the writers didn't. It could've been Blake's plan instead of Jaune's, and Qrow could've helped instead of having a breakdown etc. You can talk about what all these characters *could've* done, but it changes nothing and isn't inherently better. Equally, these things have nothing to do with Ruby's character. Either you just don't want her to be the leader and MC, or you want her to have made decisions she didn't make and then complain as thought it's a surprise when she succeeds in achieving her ends.

As for Ruby's plan, she is not being inconsistent when the stakes are this high. You cannot compare the V1 situation that everyone brings up here because that was an early training exercise and this is an apocalypse scenario. Ruby isn't and has never been people-driven. She's heroic. She has always chosen the job over staying behind, taking a break for recovery or introspection, or running away. She'd lay down her life for this and I've no doubt she would take the place of Weiss if she could, but refusing to let her do a job only she could do for an end like this is not out of character. Not wanting your friends in harm's way is one thing, but this isn't some pure decision in a vacuum. Forcing Weiss not to follow through on a decision she consented to would ironically be robbing her of agency.

Cordo is pretty unobtrusive, she appeared one episode, was a bitch to be quickly established as a "bad guy" with two one-not henchmen and then this episode to spark a fight and next to finish said fight, possibly one reference or scene after where she gets punished or demoted some bullshit, better then Leo so far at least.

This argument is incoherent. I am saying that Ruby is the same character making the same ideals-based calculations in a radically different scenario. In a training exercise, she prefers to take down the bird with support from Weiss because she'd rather put herself in danger to accomplish the mission. In a mission where Weiss can do something no one else can and would take them one step closer to saving the world, she is okay with allowing her to perform this important duty.

Are semantically different things from 'caring about Weiss.'

If I'm on a sinking ship and I can save a young woman or my mother, but not both, I'll save my mother. A young woman is arguably 'better' to save from an outsider's perspective because she's got more life to live and more to experience and contribute. However, most people would save their mother. This is because I care about my mother. It's not based on a principle but on a person.

Ruby doesn't get in the slingshot because she cares about Weiss. She does because she believe it's the best way to protect people. That is a *principle* and not based on her personal relationships. This is what I mean by ideals-based.

Ruby is a pure, simple character. She cares about ideals. Goodness, justice, protecting people. A mature and less impetuous Ruby would perceive that if the best way to save the world and protect people is to permit her friend to take a risk, that is worth doing.

From what I can tell, the issue is consistency. One side is arguing that what she's doing right now (i.e. starting a war, putting Weiss in danger) doesn't fit with everything they've hammered in for 6 years, and the writing is at fault.

The other side is arguing that this makes sense for Ruby for some contrived reasons, the writing is fine, Ruby is doing the same as she always has by starting a war and putting Weiss in danger, and the critics are at fault.

You're saying that her ideals make her consider things that put other people in danger, for the greater good. But that goes against the whole "pure, simple" thing she has going on.

Besides, if she was willing to endanger a few people for the greater good, she wouldn't have insisted that they disconnect the train. Getting the relic to safety could wait, if it meant a handful of civilians are more likely to make it out unscathed.

Starting an incident in Argus, where she is in the least danger of anyone, does not fit all the shit she has always done until now, including in this season.

I don't find these situations comparable. There is a very key difference here, which is the innocence of the bystanders on the train. Weiss is not a ramdomer. She's an involved party who has consented to participate in this mission. Protecting civilians is a different thing from preventing your teammate to play a role in your operation that exposes them to risk.

Well, the plan wasn't hers. It was Jaune's at first. And if it worked as intended (which it nearly did), they would have ensured their way to Atlas without anyone hurt. A few guys roughed up at worst.

As for not letting her teammates get in danger, there's also precedents for that. In V2 Blake took care of the most dangerous part of the plan while Ruby and Weiss just had to make a phone call, and during the fight with the paladin she stayed mostly in the back coordinating the rest of the team. In last volume she sent Yang after Raven instead of going there herself and covered her with the rest of her friends.

She also had an episode in Kuroyuri where she was blaming herself for dragging Jaune, Ren and Nora into danger, in which he drived home she wasn't responsible for their decisions (the same she does with Qrow in this episode). Even though she still does feel like she's the one letting everyone down when things don't work out (as shown in her discussion with Maria).
