Salem & Ozpin could definitely have met in the middle.

The whole subjugation thing was unnecessary and so was the preparing for judgment, since from what I understand Ozpin didn't necessarily need to unite the relics.

Surely there's some middle ground where they don't try to rule the world together as gods, but just let it develop as it will while living in seclusion with their family?

Also if the kids are the original maidens, which makes most sense to me, since their method of reincarnation is similar to Ozpin's, it feels like him and salem are in one long custody battle trying to get their children on their side.

I'll be level with you, rwby is just shot. It's a dead-end. An old nag lingering at the loading dock of the glue factory and nothing financially viable can rectify that. Gen:lock is a clean slate to really make something. It's only sensible to find good voices for major roles and like in the past, people interested in animation can be around when feelers are put out and they'll just read for a bit parts cause they're there at the time and interested. While they wont succeed, they're trying to make something good that can be broadcast. Day 5's been broadcast on cable and gen:lock's a chance for animation to make that big step

If they just give RWBY to a japanese writer like Urobuchi or Masahiro Yokotani, I can guarantee the series could have a 180 in quality.
Problem with RWBY is that it has too much exposition and very little of a series bible.
Gen:Lock's creator at least had film school experience; which RWBY doesn't really have with its current set of writers with a messy series bible.

Tolkien is good but the prose can get annoying, I didn't have the patience of Narnia, Harry Potter never got me interested and it looks shit, Game of Thrones was annoying, I only read the first two chapters of Dune and felt interested and the only close ""fantasy"" (notice the commas) book I read was Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami (and even then, everyone can safely say that the Hard Boiled Wonderland parts were way more interesting than the fantasy ones)

Their children inherited magic but not immortality I would say.
Ozma went around a long time before meeting the first gen maidens, who either reminded him of Salem and his daughters or were their descandents.
They reignited him in some way which led to the creation of the current maiden system.

Yang x Blake symbolism aligning with the two gods is fascinating. If they become a metaphor for the restoration of the relationships between the gods themselves, the gods and humanity, and humanity and the faunus, then I am HERE for that beautiful queer theology.

I highly doubt that’s the path the story is taking. The theology RWBY presents doesn’t leave much space for a narrative where creator + creations are restored and redeemed to one another. At best, we might see healing between humanity and the faunus. But it would at the very least be interesting if defeating Salem didn’t involve killing her.

At this point I’d take the Red Vs Blue’s jokey-reference over canon explanation of the moon.

When I think about it - ALL reveals in those two volumes are completely pointless

What we learned about Salem’s past literally changes nothing in the show dynamics of characters, worldbuilding or anything

Before the flashback we knew Gods did things, created McGuffin things and then left and Salem wants the McGuffin things, while Ozpin does not want her to get the McGuffin things and does shady hypocritical things that show ignores. Oh and Salem and Ozpin basically compete.

After the flashback we still know Gods did things, created Mcguffin things, etc and Salem is still the cackling badguy at Mt.Doom angry at Ozpin and Ozpin is still heroic hypocrite dumbledore who keeps doing shady shit that show ignores.

Remove entire flashback and nothing changes.

Like all this flashback did was reinforce an ongoing pattern of misogyny in the show with “Emotional Women Ruining Everything for Logical and Caring Men” trope.

Before the reveal she was random Yang’s mom who left and who appears from time to time to act mysterious and confuse viewers and Yang.

She’s still just random Yang’s mom who left and who appears from time to time to act mysterious, while Yang (and the viewers) literally can’t comprehend her logic at all because there’s none.

Remove entire motivation and nothing changes.We do not know more about Raven, we do not see it impacting Yang in any way, we do not know anything new in terms of world building(because most of what Raven regurgitated is what we already knew).

Like, all this flashback does is reinforce an ongoing pattern of misogyny and take away mystery from Raven while also giving her some of dumbest most anticlimatic motivations in entire show

What we learned about the moon, the big destroyed moon that is everywhere in the show and that kept being teased literally matters fuck all beyond the level of an easter egg.
You could literally remove the moon from entire show and nothing would change at all. Like, literally. NOTHING.

What we learned about Salem’s Evil Legion of Evil literally does nothing to make them more interesting.
Like literally all the “developing” the villains did so far is make them look dumber and less threatening.

Cinder went from master-mind plotter and manipulation to basically team rocket villain.

Adam went from threatening abusive psycho to dumb team rocket psycho.

Hazel….Hazel went from….sorry I have to go have a laugh because I remembered Hazel’s backstory.

Its almost like every single “plot twist” in these last two volumes serves no purpose in overall story because there’s no real plan and they just try to explain away basic unresolved plotpoints on the spot.

Its almost like Volume 3 is the last time the show followed ANY sort of plan and now they are just making up shit as they go along.

Im a bit confused too, my best understanding is that the negative energy pool corruption, a series of tragedies, and thousands of years alone has made Salem insane and heartless. Ozma realized this and stopped loving her, she realized he no longer loved her and stopped caring about anything.

She doesn't seem controlled by the desire to destroy, but she doesn't seem to have much left in life to get off to, so she just wants to sit in her tower fucking shit up when she's in a bad mood. She is also scared Ozma is going to try to summon the gods and either

A) They destroy everyone again, leaving her hyperalone forever and ever
or
B) They stick around, which she just doesn't want to happen because she hates them and she would lose her magic advantage over humanity.

Whether Ozma actually wants to summon the gods is ambiguous. They are the same dudes who destroyed his old world after all, and the risk in bringing them back just so people can have cool magic again is tremendous.

Ultimately, the fight between Ozma and Salem could probably be resolved diplomatically, they just haven't managed it. Which is fine, it means they are both human and make a lot of pointless mistakes.

You know he's not, but at the same time he's a good example as to why blind heroism isn't always the best thing. He ended up ruining humanity because he had to spring the emotionally stunted girl from the tower just because it seemed like an appropriate hero thing to do and it backfired on him.
