>>103574545Originally she was Cape Canaveral head of security Carol Danvers, a side love-interest for Captain Marvel in his original 1960s comic. She got caught in the explosion of the Psyche-Magnitron, a Kree meta-weapon, and wasn't seen again in the comic after that issue (although she survived, she simply didn't return).
Fast forward about a decade, and suddenly we have a Ms.Marvel comic about Ms.Marvel / Carol Danvers whom, despite the fact one turned into the other, seemed to be two different people.
Ms.Marvel was very strong (Stronger than Spider-man), very tough, could fly and had precognitive visions. (That last bit is interesting given what happened in Civil War II).It was later revealed she got her powers when the Psyche-Magnitron sensed how badly she wanted to be as powerful as Captain Marvel; the psychic abilities are a strictly human feature, merely triggered by her exposure to the Magnitron.
Her Ms.Marvel-side and Carol Danvers-side eventually reconciled and unified; she carried on heroing until she was attacked by Rogue, a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants with the ability to suck up someone's super-powers and memories. Normally that's a temporary effect, but Rogue held on too long or some shit and more or less permanently got Carol's powers and memories.
Carol was left without either, a shell of a woman; although she got her memories back, more or less, thanks to Professor Xavier, she was once again without superpowers.
She was raped and impregnated by Marcus Immortus; after the baby was born, it almost immediately grew into... Marcus Immortus, who mind-controlled her into going back with him to his home in Limbo and be his love slave. Unfortunately he had miscalculated and aged and died in a few days; she eventually worked out how to use his technology to return to Earth.
