The thing is that live action effects and hand drawn stuff all still look about as good as they did originally even years later, because those mediums are consistent in quality. While technique may change, the actual process and level of quality involved is pretty much the same. A special effect that looked cheesy in the 1970s will still look cheesy today, but one that looked good will still look as good as it used to. Who Framed Roger Rabbit still looks as great as it did, because modern animation isnt that much better than the animation of the time.
But 3D animation is still evolving, and rapidly. Something from just 3 years ago can look outdated. So even something that looked great at the time is being rapidly left in the dust.
Like, just 5 years ago the idea of what disney is doing these days, recreating the faces of younger or even dead actors, would have seemed impossible. Not anymore.
