Americans love anything, it's hollywood that hates 2D.
But they do have their reasons.
In 2D animation, every scene has to be done frame by frame, there's almost no reuse of assets except backgrounds. If a mistake is made, it takes ages to correct that mistake, it's not much of a problem with digitally drawn animation, but mistakes still happen. Also with 2D animation, you need several artists to draw each frame, and getting all of them to draw consistently takes ages to perfect, and of course lots of time.
In 3D, you have to make several 3D models and backgrounds, and while it takes an assload of time to do, once you have those models, you can use it again and again, that's why hollywood latched onto 3D for animated series like flies on a fresh heaping pile of shit.
Another reason why the industry loves 3D is because there's room for improvement in technology, ways to make animating easier and look better, while 2D animation for it to look better, it requires a lot more work.
Don't get me wrong, I love 2D animation, but you're a fool if you think 2D can be revived, at least for western animation.
