I had a similar experience debating with some folks on mlpforums about how Nintendo has become a regressive shell of it's former self. Weird to be on the opposite side of the argument when it comes to SCI though. I do genuinely enjoy the show quite a lot. Chalk it up to personal preference? Idk, most of the other shows people describe as "comfy" I detest (looking at you CotC & WBB). I know I'm in the minority about this next point, but SCI is one of the only shows in recent years that has an art style which appeals to me. The animation quality is pretty sub par, but the actual visual style of the characters is quite resonant with me. The big, cutesy eyes, thin-lined art, and the pastel color palette are right up my alley. I also love all the
heartwarming friendshipping moments between the two MCs. There is plenty to like about the show, but I must concede that as an outsider looking in, it is probably a very disconcerting to see adults flocking to what seems like a "baby show".
