maybe the island is safe from the event, Susie knows this and that's why she will never leave.
maybe time doesn't exist on the island and that's how Suzie never aged. in fact, when Oscar "stopped time" that's when both him and Hedgehog visibly started aging, that would explain how Ramona aged normally and why the Jabberwock wanted to eat the kids since they're were the "misplaced time" in its realm, and Belly could be about Oscar being one of the survivors of the event.
another neat tidbit is the design pattern in witch magic. Susie has pink stars, Alice has blue hearts and Ramona has white sparkles.
