Ok I will say it, season 3 was huge let down, Meteora is easily the worst cartoon villain of 2018, the whole thing got rushed as fuck and the romance was worse written than fanfiction

It was a fucking shitty season way too focused on poorly written romance and drama instead of fights against monsters and adventures.

Yeah Meteora is garbage. Her existence almost makes me want to lay off the shipping focus of S3 because she was worse despite being more relevant to the plot.

The worst thing about her is that we're going to continue to see her even after her storyline ended, and are now expected to like her.

Only the finale. At least S2 gave us the onset for the battle of Mewni.
The romance was something that if it hadn't been touched, a lot of (Tumblr) fans would considered a let down, but "Booth buddies" made an actual good work in making them cry for the end when the real fuel is on the politics and lore.
I actually was expecting to be more romance in the S3, but actually was just the healthy dose.

The main problem is how Toffe ended up not being the mastermind everyone believed he was, before season 3 everyone thought he was was eclipsa friend or follower and sacrificed himself to free her in a complex plan

I liked Meteora, but season 3 honestly did have a lot of issues in the long run. Many of these issues required the characters to conveniently forget about various skills or tools they possess, as well as requiring Moon to be a complete idiot. There were a needless amount of contrivances.

As as half-length season I'm not entirely sure it makes sense to divide S1 into "A" and "B", but there WAS a major upswing in quality starting with Mewberty, and that was right about the halfway point. So I'll go with the "1A" and 1B" designations anyway.

S3 really comes off as if it were written without regard for how long it would take for the audience to see the whole thing. Booth Buddies made it clear that having Star and Marco's interactions be so off in 3A was intentional, for the purpose of making their conversation there something cathartic to the audience. The problem is that the crew forgot that since the interaction between the main characters is what the whole show is built around, they sacrificed 80% of the season in order to have a single moment of catharsis afterward. Did it not occur to them that part of the audience might be driven away before getting to that point when they spend 20 episodes ruining the main appeal of the show?

Season 2 isn't lore focused, most of the episodes have nothing to do with lore and it happens in the background. Season 3 is more loreshit than season 2, the entire season is about meteora, eclipsa and human/monster politics.

The fact the credits and their size heavily suggest that they fucking ERASED the core team.

Nefcy just plain doesn't run the show anymore. Instead it's some core Disney people who basically just want to make it all more mass market compatible in preparation for Disney trying to take on Amazon Live and Netflix.

like other people here said, the show started off with a Gravity Falls-like mixture of fun characters doing fun things and lore but they gambled too hard on the audience sticking around once they started ditching core cast members and making Star consistently less amusing. You can call that character development but the opening theme still sells wacky adventure and the two leads actually doing shit together.

S3 is going to be remembered as the season the writers decided to ignore the expectations the first 2 seasons set up.
Instead of raising the tension, all of Star's rivals got broomed quickly (dumped by Jackie and Hekapoo, Janna no longer teasing Marco) and then Star immediately turns to Tom for no reason and Marco has no problem with it whatsoever. Marco doesn't actually object to ANYTHING that happens to him. Like Jackie, Tom becomes nearly blameless to the point that he's not really an interesting character beyond feeling bad for what's likely going to happen to him later through no fault of his own.
Instead of following the trope S1 set up of a fish out of water, Marco adjusts to life on Mewni without a problem.
I wouldn't put it past the writers to send Moon to some arbitrary dimension that isn't Earth and resolve her having gone missing inside a few episodes. They just don't fucking care any more and it's been showing since 3B. And I'll say this AGAIN: what cartoon show needs this many writers to crap out an 11 minute segment?

This isn't CN. "Princess Turdina" has a credit line of "Story by" followed by 6 names (implying it's a mix of writers and storyboarders who made substantial contributions). The next episode, "Starfari", credits 2 people with "Written and Storyboarded by" instead of "Story by."

There's a consistent writing team (those 6 guys) who write all the outlines for the episodes and shape the entire season's plot.

The actual episodes are written/boarded by the storyboarders based on those outlines, including all the dialogue and exactly how shit plays out, etc.
