they seem to be continuing it in Heroes, with Hearts' plot to kill Zeno.
We know that Toei sometimes suggests plot ideas to Toriyama, based on what they think will be more popular. That's why Broly and Trunks returned, as Toriyama told us. But as Toyotaro tells us, Toriyama still has the final say, so if he thinks an idea is bad, he can veto it. I strongly suspect that Toei kept bugging Toriyama into writing a "ningen rebellion against the GoDs" plotline, something that Toei had been setting up since pretty much the beginning of Super by portraying Beerus as much more arbitrary and cruel. They continued to push this angle throughout the Champa arc, with Goku despairing his weakness in the face of the GoDs, Beerus rubbing Goku's weakness in his face, Champa threatening to murder his team, and Goku and Hit swearing that soon they won't be pawns, all shit that didn't happen in the manga. Toriyama just *RAFFED* at Toei and told them to fuck off, but they STILL kept pursuing their fanfiction in the ToP by giving Freeza the motivation to overthrow Zeno, vainly hoping that maybe Toriyama could still be brought around to the idea.
When he firmly shut the door on that retardation, they chose to put it in Heroes instead.
