Eugene Song was a dummy but he's only a small part in why Netflix is so stupid
we already know why Death Note was so bad
Not related to anime but look at the Witcher tv series too
now look at Cowboy Bebop
The problem here lies a lot of the people working on these "anime" adaptations is they literally do not care about the source material, they even do so much as to ignore the complaints by the original owners. Toei told Song it was a bad idea but no one at Netflix seemed to really give a shit.
The way I look at it, is that the people making this stuff just view it as a stepping stone to work on what they really want and just view what they are working on now as generic shlock and add liberal stuff because they want to known for anything but making a good adaptation or even good story. they want to make a progressive story!
Did you hear the Music in the Seint Seiya trailer? first stock music they could find
Spike's casting seemed like a lame effort to find an Asian actor. "oh hey remember Harold and Kumar, lets just get that guy, i don't want to look for actual young asian talent"
The Witcher - "oh its some generic fantasy right? well lets just make it that, but I'm also unhappy that it doesn't conform with my liberal agenda, i'm so unhappy having to have a job in the entertainment industry!"
