It's obvious that thanks to the increased exposure an anime adaptation gives any series, more people will pay attention to it, which means there will be an increase in attention seekers who want to ruin the experience for all the people who like it as well. The same would happen if the manga exploded in popularity out of nowhere too even if never got an adaptation, it's just that because anime is somehow more accessible than manga this kind of thing is more noticeable this way.
