This too. Punches really don't start having impact until Ultra Instinct comes out.
Super as a whole barely feels like there's any stakes. Beerus shows up, but just as he's about to destroy the planet he fucking falls asleep, with the movie version of him coming to find Goku fascinating and choosing to spare him instead. Nobody cares when Frieza shows up. Zamasu is a massive threat, but he's only attacking the Trunks timeline, and by the second trip nobody cares any more. ToP has massive stakes on the other hand, but too many of the opponents were fodder. It's only when Jiren starts showing off when things get serious, and that's after an entire god damn arc.
Compare it to Z, for instance. Saiyan Saga starts us off with Goku dying, then everyone else dying. Namek Saga has the crew going to a fucking hostile alien planet with Frieza, and they have to ensure that under no circumstances they cross him. Cell Saga has the Dragon Balls out of commission and undetectable, killer androids on the loose as well as some bug monster who is eating entire cities. Buu Saga... was a mess, but at least there was still some good character development and fights to make up for it.
The sound design in Super also sucks. The music is spammed more than Bruce Faulconer's tracks in the American soundtrack, some blocks and movements legit have stock sound effects so old that they've been used in ROBLOX, and so on. It feels cheap and lame, not even bringing up the lack of real battle injuries. Remember when Gohan got his arm fucked up? And then his kid self got his arm fucked up?>>178667667
Z soundtrack is amazing. A shame Kai couldn't keep some tracks like Unmei No Hi.
