A lot of people hate Goku because they're dubfags who think the way he acts in Super is "flanderization" instead of the way he was always portrayed and MEANT to be portrayed in Toriyama's eyes.
I hate Goku because he's a two-dimensional character with very little, if any, growth over the entire series.
Krillin was a conniving little shit who wanted to learn martial arts to beat up bullies and get girls, but after training with Goku and Roshi he developed a sense of self-respect and thus his ego diminished, creating an entirely new character.
Tenshinhan was all about loyalty to your master, but his moral code overrode that and he ended that partnership, yet still couldn't train under another master which added another, more complex facet to his character.
Piccolo was always confused about his morality and only tried to follow in his father's footsteps out of obligation, but Gohan transformed him into something else entirely.
Vegeta was much the same, with his evil side being overshadowed by his rivalry with a fellow Saiyan brother and eventually disappearing entirely, even when he willingly tried to call it back.
Goku has been "lol I'm hungry and I wanna fight strong guys" since Bulma hit him with her car. He's boring. Fuck him.
