Yeah, but almost all of them could have left it at some point but didn't.
Joseph could've taken the ring as soon as Caesar gave it to him, and then he'd have been unlikely to ever see the Pillar Men again. They really had Jotaro by the balls, he honestly didn't have a choice. Josuke could've just shrugged and said that catching wasn't his business, like Hazemada and Tonio and co. Giorno was only ever motivated by his personal dream, he could've quit whenever. Jolyne could have stopped chasing Pucci after getting Jotaro's second disc back, but knew damn well that what he was going to do would hurt people so chased furiously after him. If anything I'd say she's the most superhero-esque of the lot, she did her damn best to stop what she was sure was (and sort of actually was) a world-risking threat.
Admittedly, Johnny's not QUITE as bad as that - while no less selfish, his motives were that he genuinely believed he was an active blight on humanity, and wanted to prove he was worth something by acquiring the corpse parts. And Valentine was a rapist cunt who treated his henchman like shit and gave Jesus to a snobby Englishman, fuck him.
