It seems like anime is getting more and more cliche these days. I can't even count how many times I've seen the "unstoppable reckless hothead hero" troupe or the "aloof badass".
The problem, of course is not that they are aloof badasses or hotheads; these archetypes can be done perfectly well, so long as they are properly characterized- for example, you might make the aloof character lose his cool when some deep insecurity is uncovered, or make the reckless hero develop character after seeing consequences for charging in to the battle. But what most anime do is fuck up with 1 dimensional characters, who all they are is just their trope. It's these annoying cliches that make me aware I'm viewing someone else's lazy creation, it takes me out of the fantasy.
