I don't think you can really call BnHA generic. The plot and setup are generic on the face of it, but the author keeps subverting expectations such that it's actually rather fresh on the whole. The tournament arc, the moody genius, the rival, nothing has been as we've expected it to be.
Taking a standard mold and adding your own twist isn't generic, it's fiction. It's only generic if you don't stray far from the mold. And I don't even think the plot has hit the big time yet. Everything up to this point has felt like a prologue of sorts. Once the Villain Alliance and One for All start to move, that's when shit will get real.
